Latitude and longitude
Latitude and Longitude :-
The position of a geographical location on Earth is determined by the latitude and longitude lines.
The latitude of a place represents the north to south position of that place on the ground, and the longitude shows the position of that place from east to west. The latitudes of the northern axes and southern axles are 90 ° north and 90 ° south, respectively.
Latitude
Latitude :-
Latitude is the angular distance measured at a point from the center of the Earth on a meridian north or south of the equator on the surface of the Earth. It is shown in degrees, minutes and seconds.
The equatorial line is called 0 ° latitude, which divides the Earth in two equal parts from the latitudinal angle. The latitudinal expansion of 90 ° to the north of the equator is called the northern hemisphere and the latitudinal expansion of 90 ° to the south of the equator is called the southern hemisphere.
Latitude line feature :-
These lines are drawn from east to west.
The length of the latitude decreases as the axles move from the equator.
The distance between any two latitude lines is equal, which is 111.13 km.
The total number of latitude lines is 181.
The equator is the largest latitude line which is also known as the Great Circle. The total length of which is 40,076 km.
The area between any two latitude lines is called a zone.
23 ½ ° northern latitude is called the Tropic of Cancer and 23 ½ ° southern latitude is called the Tropic of Capricorn.
The equator is also called 0 ° latitude.
Longitude
Longitude :-
The angular distance east or west of Prime Meridian of any place on Earth is called Longitude.
Longitude line feature :-
The 0 ° longitude of the Earth is considered as Prime Meridian. Which pass through the Greenwich Observatory near London.
There are longitude lines up to 180 ° on either side of the 0 ° longitude, which is 360 ° in total.
All longitude lines are equal in length and all longitude lines divide the earth into two equal parts. That is why all longitude lines are called great circles.
All longitude lines meet on the axes, ie these lines are drawn in the north-south direction.
The distance between two longitude lines is called Gore.
Earth rotates 360 ° on its axis in 24 hours i.e. it takes 4 minutes for the Earth to cover a distance of 1 °.
The longitude line is used to determine both the position and time of a place.
